In the end, he was an inspirational fool, a needed mistake

"By design McCandless came into the country with insufficient provisions, and he lacked certain pieces of equipment deemed necessary by many Alaskans: a large-caliber rifle, map and compass, and an ax. This has been regarded as evidence not just of stupidity but of the even greater sin of arrogance"(Krakauer 180).

Travel advice, and inspiration or fool

I mean come on Chris, This is some travel advice you should really have listened to. If he would have had a road map and not just a topographical he would have been chilling, because he died like 20 miles away from the highway. Also a his arrogance cost him his life, thinking that he could make it in alaska of all places. His death was extremely unfortunate, especially considering that he was such a bright young man and had such a big influence on people. Im just glad that he did this, so that all the people who aren't as smart or great as him who read a book and go cross country think before they leap.  Inspirational dreams, foolish execution.

He died in the woods and they questioned his sex life?

"We americans are titillated by sex, obsessed by it. horrified by it. When an apparently healthy person, especially a healthy young man, elects to forgo the enticements of the flesh, it shocks us, and we leer. Suspicions are aroused" (Krakauer 66).

The Dynamics of Family

I think this reflects on family dynamics more so, but on a side note, also reflects societal views. Like how we all look look at sex, and glorify it, but then when it comes to individual families it is totally wrong, and i just don't understand that aspect. It said in the story when he was in highschool he tried to have sex, but he couldn't, not because of personal choice, but because he made too much noise and then he got caught and they sent the girl home. I think he chose to be celibate because he didn't give his parents the middle finger directly, he gave it to them in pride. He did it with integrity, because his parents would have never known, but he wasn't doing it for them, he was doing it for himself, and showing society, he didn't have to be what they wanted, and that he could make his own path, and do what he wanted, when he was capable of doing anything, he chose to live the that lots of people don't want to and are forced to live. The sex is one of the biggest parts to, he is expected to as a horny young man, (something hard to resist because it's in our nature) And he still said no. i am my own man.

Who needs time?

"I don't want to know what time it is. I don't want to know what day it is or where I am, none of that matters" (Krakauer 7).
I feel like this is Inspirationally foolish, and its honestly great. He's great, and I have nothing more that  can admire than his tenacity, but it is very foolish, I mean in the end, he ended up dying and thats very sad. He was trying to be brave, adventurous, and wanted to really be one with the earth. If that were me i wouldnt be able to do that. Its really great, but i need to know what time it is. You can tell a bit from the sun, but not a ton, I'm not skilled like that. in the first place, i wouldn't even go into the alaskan woods, even if i had all the gear, because its so intense. Alaska is harsh, and very unforgiving. I think he's an inspiring fool in the very least.
